SCROLL DOWN

about

The cuisine at Ambra is rooted in Italian tradition & treated with a contemporary style.

The changing of the seasons determines our menu. The name Ambra was our grandfather’s original last name that he changed in order to disassociate himself from his brothers, who were involved in less than savory business dealings. The name of the restaurant is telling of the style of food- non-traditional and bending the rules of what is considered Italian food in Philadelphia.

Marina de Oliveira & Chris D'Ambro...

met as part of the opening staff of Talula’s Garden. Chris went on to cook at Talula’s Table, and Marina moved on to help open Fountain Porter. The couple then moved to San Jose del Cabo to run Flora's Field Kitchen, a restaurant on an organic farm which is considered to be one of the best true ‘farm to table’ restaurants in the world. Chris and Marina moved back to Philadelphia to take over ownership of Southwark Restaurant and Cocktail Bar with plans to expand soon after opening. The empty storage space connected through the kitchen quickly became a work in progress during their first year. Seven months after opening the doors at Southwark they are debuting their second restaurant, the type of restaurant they set out looking to open four years ago.
